Perfect for Halloween, or any other holiday, this poisoned apple cider cocktail is sweet and eerie with it’s mystical red and golden swirls!
Get into the spooky Halloween spirit with this poisoned apple cider cocktail… made easy with just a handful of ingredients! The optional luster dust gives the cocktail it’s mystical red and golden swirls, which make for one eerily beautiful drink!
Are you getting in the Halloween spirit? I am, but I think on some level I’m still procrastinating like crazy. Usually by now we have the kids’ costumes picked out and purchased, and at least some candy bought and stored away.
side note: please tell me I’m not the ONLY one who buys candy ahead of time, then eats it and has to buy some of it again?
But this year… guess what I’ve accomplished so far? Nothing. Nada. Zip! Granted, life has been crazy lately, and running two blogs takes up so much more time than I anticipated… but still. I need to buckle down and get prepared, since Halloween is in just 3 weeks!
I’ve talked before about how we don’t have to attend adult Halloween parties much anymore… hellllooooo homebodies, but if you’re the partying kind, this drink is PERFECT for a signature cocktail. It’s sweet, apple-y with a spiced kick from the rum, and the best part is the mesmerizing shimmery swirls!
Have you ever had the liqueur Viniq? The bottles are SO much fun to pick up and swirl around at the liquor store. However, I’ve never a fan of the actual taste of Viniq, which is a shame! Thanks to my amazing friend Dini over at The Flavor Bender, she’s come up with several recipes for homemade Viniq, which are fabulous!! Her homemade version is where I got the idea to add the luster dust, which is what gives the drink those shimmery swirls.
If you’re worried about consuming the dust, it’s food grade and completely edible. You can also serve this cocktail without it, but I just love the eerie look it gives! I bought mine at my local cake decorating store, but I’ve also linked to a similar one on amazon in the recipe below. You can use any color you’d like… I chose gold here.
Granted, this is a great Halloween cocktail, but it’s also amazing for the entire Fall. Basically anytime apple cider is readily available 🙂 You could have a pumpkin carving party and serve this apple cider cocktail, or have some friends over for some Fall baking and serve this drink. The sky’s the limit!
Since we’re smack-dab in the middle of prime apple cider season, I hope you guys give this apple cider cocktail a try! I know you’ll love it!
GET THE LOOK:
- Gold luster dust – feel free to use other colors, but this is the gold one I used for the photos!
- Brandy glasses – good for so much more than just brandy!

Poisoned Apple Cider Cocktail
Perfect for Halloween, or any other holiday, this poisoned apple cider cocktail is sweet and eerie with it's mystical red and golden swirls!
- 4 oz apple cider
- 1 1/2 oz spiced rum
- 1 1/2 oz pomegranate juice
- 3/4 oz grenadine
- scant 1/4 tsp edible luster dust (I used a gold color, but silver is also beautiful)
Add ice to cocktail shaker, add ingredients, cover and shake. Strain into glass and serve!
Edible luster dust will settle at the bottom of the glass, so providing your guests with a cocktail stirrer is a great idea... so they can swirl the drink from time to time.
To make drink non-alcoholic, add an extra 3/4 oz of both apple cider and pomegranate juice to replace the rum.
